My story

My art-making journey began young and in the family. My Mother was a natural artist and Father a professional photographer with studio business, all my sisters were all artists both musically and visual arts. When I was 14, I attended community classes in painting and metalsmithing to create for myself some silver jewelry, I loved it.

Throughout my life, I always was drawn to the creative process. I wanted to do it all so off to college and then university I went to study fine arts.

When I was finished with my studies,  I was determined to be a self-employed artist. I took a silversmithing night class and when I discovered the art of lost wax casting I was hooked, it was the direction I was going.

In my early thirties, determined to be a jewellery artist, I moved to Vancouver from Edmonton. Shared a tiny studio with a student from Emily Carr, who had a flex shaft hand drill and I had a polisher. Then is when I met my husband, Marshall Mar.

Marshall already an established metal artist and goldsmith, we began to work beside each other in our shared workshop/studio in Vancouver. Marshall had just set the workshop with pewter casting and production equipment and for two years we worked on a line of motorcycle accessories of his designs. We called the line "Metal Art from Mars" it was an adventure.

My heart was in nature so I created a new line with my sculptures, reproduced in pewter and copper plated. This was the beginning of my "Earthly Creature Designs".

Our vision was to live on the Sunshine Coast, we found our piece of land in the Pender Harbour area, made it our home and place of work.

I travelled across Canada to artisan craft fairs in Toronto, Edmonton, Victoria and Vancouver for many years selling my work  An opportunity close to home, presented itself to open a little gallery shop that happens to come along with a cafe. Copper Sky Gallery and Cafe in downtown Madeira Park was born. For 8 years it was the thriving hub of the community, well known to artists and extremely popular with locals and visitors. It's was wonderful but I missed working on my art full time so we sold 2013 and I was full time in the studio again.

I've since have been working on my Earthly Creatures and creating a new collection of fresh new designs in precious metals and stones as my art journey continues. Life for me has always been trying to be true to myself, enjoying the ride never stop dreaming...
