Barred Owl brooch
One of two Barred Owl brooch designs I've made and is part of a series of birds that I'm calling "Birds in the hood". The real barred owl has been a regular visitor to our back yard, he's not that shy. I've been able to get some wonderful photographs during a hunting session when we exposed hiding garter snakes, one of its favorite foods.
I carved the original owl in wax then using the lost wax method, it was then cast in bronze. I made the mould from this original owl to make reproductions in silver pewter. All my work in made by me in our workshop studio.
This owl measure 2-3/16" x 1-5/8" has a nice weight to it, almost an ounce perfect for a jacket or a heavier fabric. It's a nice size brooch, very well made not flimsy at all.
