Fat tree frog brooch
Fat tree frog brooch
The original was sculpted in wax then using the lost wax method, cast into bronze. The frogs are cast in silver pewter.
We have these beautiful pacific tree frogs that live in the forest all around us. When I'm lucky enough to come across one I get to study their shape and form with photography and drawings, to keep a record for use in the studio.
In the winter, during a period of warm wet weather, the males will croak a single note letting us know they are out there waiting for spring to arrive.
The fat frog brooch has a bit of weight to it and should be worn on a heavier fabric,
I modeled it after a female tree frog who is a bit larger than the male. I've hollowed out the back to keep it as light as I can without losing a solid feel.
Weighs just over an ounce. (31 grams)
I also make this fat tree frog as a solid sculpture.
